A surge in cryptocurrency-related kidnappings in France has been reported, with over 40 cases since July 2023. A confidential memorandum from the French Judicial Police suggests these 'wrench attacks' are often orchestrated by overseas criminals using local accomplices. Victims are predominantly young male investors or influencers whose wealth is tracked through social media. Blockchain security firm CertiK highlights a 75% year-over-year increase in such attacks, with physical assaults rising by 250%. The situation poses a disturbing trend of violence associated with digital asset ownership.
